On the Cover: MBP-specific transduced CD4+ T cells traffic to the CNS. Splenocytes from MBP TCR-Tg mice
were transduced with the GFP-luciferase retroviral vector. CD4+ cells were isolated by MACS and analyzed by
FACS for GFP expression. Cell suspensions with 1 X 106 GFP+ cells were transferred i.v. to PL/J recipients.
Recipients were anesthetized, and luciferin substrate was administered. Pseudocolor images range from least
(blue) to most (red) luciferase photon intensity, and organs demostrating luciferase-positive cells are labeled
as follows: LG, lung; CLN, cervical lymph node; ALN, axillary lymph node; BLN, branchial lymph node; ILN,
inguinal lymph node; SPL, spleen; MLN, mesenteric lymph node; PLN, periaortic lymph node; IMM, sites of
MBP/CFA immunization; and SC, spinal cord. A, A total of 1 X 106 CD4+ cells transduced to express GFP-
luciferase were transferred to naive or MBP-immunized mice 11 days after EAE induction but before EAE
clinical signs. Data are representative of three experiments (n = 2-3/group). B, A total of 1 X 106 CD4+ cells
transduced to express GFP-luciferase were transferred to naive (n = 2) or MBP-immunized (n = 6) mice during
EAE clinical signs (26 days after EAE induction, clinical score = 2). (Figure 4 from Costa, G. L., M. R. Sandora,
