Abstract
These studies have shown that potent rickettsial complement-fixing antigens can be prepared from BS-C-1 cell cultures infected with R. prowazeki, R. mooseri, and three strains of R. tsutsugamushi. The R. prowazeki and R. mooseri antigens showed type specificity and stability. A broadly reactive R. tsutsugamushi antigen could be prepared by combining the specific antigens of the three strains employed; such a trivalent antigen has potential value in diagnostic serology.
